Capt. Cooper Fersen
Cooper Fersen has fished the waters around Martha's Vineyard since his father put a rod in his hand at the age of 5. Named after the fishing legend Cooper Gilkes of Coop's Bait and Tackle, "Little Coop" has held an incredible passion for fishing and being on the water since he was a kid. His father worked for the Orvis Company allowing Cooper to dive headfirst into the world of fly fishing and the outdoors. Cooper graduated from the University of Virginia in 2019 with a BA in Political Science along with being a member of the Mens Lacrosse program. While in College Cooper spent his summers fishing the waters around Martha's Vineyard and working at his namesake's tackle shop. After graduating, Cooper continued to spend summers on Martha's Vineyard, but also became a lacrosse coach at his alma mater in the fall and spring. In 2022, Cooper moved to Martha's Vineyard permanently to fulfill his dream of making a living on the water.
Cooper's fishing background stretches from the small rivers and lakes of Vermont to the canyons hundreds of miles offshore. He has fished the Bristol Bay region of Alaska, to the bays and flats of the Florida Keys and Cape Cod Bay. Between Cooper's father and his namesake "Big Coop", he has been blessed with being surrounded by some of the best fishing knowledge in the northeast. Whether fly fishing for striped bass in the rips or chasing tuna offshore, Cooper respects and understands the ocean and wants to create lasting memories for you on your trip with Red Moon Charters.
